While Harry and his brother were working at Coney Island, Harry met a dancer named Bess. Around the age of seventeen he began doing a magic show with his brother "Dash" called "The Brothers Houdini." Harry would spend hours working on magic tricks and practicing quick hand movements. Young Harry always had an interest in magic and performing. Houdini, a Hungarian Jew born Erik Weisz (later spelt Ehrich Weiss), moved with his family to the United States in 1878 at the age of four and became a renowned magician, escapologist and stunt performer as well as an actor and film producer. He first did the stunt in New York Harbor on Jand repeated it many times during his career. The trick involved Houdini climbing into a packing crate while manacled and the crate subsequently being nailed shut, roped and weighed down with lead before being lowered into the water. Houdini, wearing handcuffs and leg-irons, is probably about to perform his famous "overboard box escape".
